| Council Notes from February |
|
February 9, 2010 The church Council welcomed Rick Orton as a new member and chose officers for the coming year. The officers will remain the same as in 2009 – Ron Reichert is president, Sonjia Short is vice president, Keith Von Der Heide is secretary, Shirley Robbins is recording secretary and John Hilliard is financial secretary. Rick Orton will be the liaison to the Outreach Committee, a job previously held by Barb Gallogly-Turner, who did not seek another term on the Council. The Council also reappointed five people as trustees for the congregation – the group that looks the money and property of Memorial UCC. They are Gary Johnson, who serves as chair of the trustees, Dean Baumgardner, Denise Brandl, John Hilliard and Keith Von Der Heide. In an effort to streamline Council meetings, the Council members who serve as liaisons to committees will email short summaries of committee news to all Council members each month before the Council meetings. Those summaries will also be posted on the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall. (The liaisons, by the way, are Keith Von Der Heide to trustees, Michael Magness to adult programming, Kelly Jetzer to children’s programming, Wendy Proctor to membership, Rick Orton to outreach, Sonjia Short to worship, and Jon Boldebuck to building and grounds. In other business, the Council suggested offering old hymnals and Bibles to members and friends who would like to make a donation for them. (See article on Page 9.) It approved the use of Fellowship Hall for a community event put on by Fitchburg Fields. It appointed Rick Orton, Sonjia Short and Pastor Phil as an ad hoc group to look at how we organize our time and talent. And it asked Pastor Phil to work with committee chairs and office manager Jean Lepro on ways we can improve communication with members. There was extended discussion about a recommendation of the Strategic Planning Committee to restructure our committee structure around issues of education. The Council will wait for more reaction from the Children’s Programming and Adult Programming Committees as well as the Sunday Morning Advisory Committee before taking any action on this recommendation. The next Council meeting will be on Tuesday, March 9, at 6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. |
