PASTORS'  REPORTS

Phil:  Reviewed the Lenten and Easter services and briefly discussed possible changes based on this year's experience.  John H. recommended the Saturday evening prayer service.
Reviewed the Confirmation service.  Noted that the MUCC Facebook page is up and running as of this evening and all of us are urged to become "fans".  The Confirmation video is on the page.
Fitchburg Library ground-breaking ceremony – some MUCC members were there.
Events:  Southwest Association meeting and Wisconsin Conference Annual Meeting - delegates needed.  Visit of Mitri Raheb to Madison, with several events.

Leah:  Described various youth and children projects and programs in the works -- the Amazing Grace (race) for youth, a summer youth trip to Chicago, some experiences with younger children.
Working on adult education possibilities, and a greater connection with Dane County United; also how Wednesday evening might become a regular time of activity at the church.

MINUTES:   Moved by Sonjia and seconded by Kelly that minutes of the March meeting be approved as presented.  Carried.

FINANCIAL REPORT:  John gave a written report, and gave details of benevolent giving, including an anonymous gift which has given donations to the Madison-area Urban Ministry work with returning prisoners, Back Bay Mission, and a scholarship through the Boys and Girls Club toward a young person's college expenses.
Moved by Sonjia and seconded by Kelly to accept this report.  Motion carried.

SPECIAL REPORT:  The Sunday Morning Advisory Committee, represented by Jackie Neidhart, Janine Bessemer, and Jann Veloff, presented their written report for the Council's consideration and decision.  Two written surveys and two after-church meetings were held in recent weeks, on the basis of which the Committee formulated four possible scenarios, of which the Committee recommended two.  After lengthy discussion of issues such as space needs, time schedules, need for volunteers, and the congregation's expressed desires for education opportunities, social opportunities for kids, and service projects for all, the Council agreed to make a final decision at the May meeting.  Ron will e-mail the committee's report to the Council members as a reminder.  THANKS were expressed to the Committee:  Jackie, Janine, Jann, and also Beth and Michael Magness, Betsy  Robbins, Jessica Veloff, and our two pastors.

OLD BUSINESS (after a two-minute break):
The Policy and Procedures Committee reported progress.  They have been checking minutes from years back, for ideas and situations which can guide them.

NEW BUSINESS:  Jacy Boldebuck and Ron Reichert will be our delegates to the Association meeting.  It was moved by Sonjia and seconded by Rick that the Council appoint them as delegates.  Motion carried.
John handed out the MUCC Memorial Grounds Program Guidelines, which the Trustees have produced.  This includes a plan map.  Some elements are still under discussion. The goal is to develop an orderly and pleasing landscape, with fairness to all.  It was moved by Sonjia and seconded by Kelly to approve this plan.  Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned.  Next:  May 11, 2010 at 6:45 p.m.
