Council minutes from November 2011
November 08, 2011
Present: Kelly Jetzer, Jon Boldebuck, Josh Gormley, Sonjia Short, John Hilliard and Pastor Phil
Unable to attend: Elliot, Bobbie, Pastor Leah; Wendy and Nona were ill

Due to lack of quorum, we held an informal meeting, providing updates and discussion.
1)    Pastor Phil led us in an opening prayer. John provided an appropriate touch of humor (Slow down and the Lord will save you!)

2)    Pastor’s Reports
a)    Leah provided a written report detailing
i)    the planning underway for the Confirmation retreat in Atlanta next summer,
ii)    the next 3 Feast on Fridays, sponsored by Marty Smith, Bonnie VanOverbeke and Nancy Baumgardner, and Paula Haseman and Ted Peterson
iii)    Children’s Sabbath success
iv)    Raking with the youth brought in $265 for support of the non-profit partners of the Urban Immersion Retreat in Milwaukee in February
v)    Training on pastoral care in emergencies
vi)    Joined with other faith leaders to advocate support for people with disabilities

b)    Phil reported on the variety of activities filling the life of this community of faith
i)    25 people participated in the Crop Walk
ii)    Children in Halloween costumes “trick or treating” with UNICEF boxes
iii)    52 members and friends participating in Cottage meetings
iv)    19 youth from three congregations at a confirmation retreat
v)    $154 and 175 food items donated for Mission 1
vi)    Pastor’s fund and Ahrnsbrak Fund in last month helped 6 people with $650.
vii)    Wonderful support of members and friends for Joe and Sheree at Evan Cooper’s memorial service and for the Holt family at Jim’s memorial service.
viii)    Freda Stuessy’s 95th birthday party
ix)    Special thanks for Wendy Proctor and all of the work she did with several of the activities listed
Announcements
The interim Regional Conference Minister has been selected – Kent Ulery
Jon and Jacy planning “stories of faith” adult ed session on Nov 20th, featuring 3 long time members
Jeff Puhlmann-Becker, longtime director of Pilgrim Camp, has announced his resignation

3)    Financial Report – Finances looking better than last month, but still looks like we’ll need to cover a deficit spending from the contingency fund.  Really need the pledges to come in about 10% higher next year to have a balanced budget without making significant cuts.
a)    Stewardship Cottage Meetings have been very enlightening.  Pastor Phil has compiled the results for us to review next month

4)    Committee check-in
a)    Trustees (Jon) – approved $500 each from the endowment fund for the Bob Mutton lecture fund, prison ministry, and $100 for December guest lecturer Dalia Landau. Gary starting to work on 2012 budget.
b)    Adult Programming (Josh) Auction brought in over $4,800.  Craft retreat nicely attended. Other activities reported above
c)    Education Committee (Kelly) – kids had a fun time with the Halloween event, Advent workshop coming up with cookie-decorating and craft activities
d)    Membership (Wendy) – Google Ads are seeing 25-30 clicks per month, running ads regularly in Fitchburg publication, did the “how to invite friends to church” skit
e)    Outreach (Elliot) – Mission 1 activities, deciding on how to spend the 2nd mile giving from 2010
f)    Worship (Bobbie) – Decorating scheduled for Nov 26th, Dec. 3rd and Dec 22nd.
g)    Building and Grounds (Nona) – Carpets will be cleaned after the Advent Workshop

5)    Old Business
a)    January 21st launch of Wisconsin Conference Church Renewal program
b)    Revisited the Concealed Carry motion and sign language.  Decided to leave as is.
c)    Lynn Hilgers’ benefit concert that was approved via email has been set for Dec 4th

6)    New Business
a)    Annual meeting set for January 29th after the 10:00 service
b)    Kelly will not fulfill the remaining year of her term, so we’ll need to find a replacement for her
c)    Sonjia will review the council terms and figure out what we need to do for next year.

7)    We ended the meeting at 8:35 PM.
