Twink Jan-McMahon
Twink is our acting associate pastor. She and her husband, Craig Jan-McMahon, are the parents of two daughters, the youngest of whom graduated from East High School in 2012. Their older daughter is a student at Luther College. They live on the near east side of Madison in the Atwood neighborhood.
Twink and Craig found the UCC when they were living in Ames, Iowa, then joined Lake Edge UCC in Madison in 1996 when they moved here. She was a leader in the Christian education program there. They both decided to pursue the ministry as second careers and graduated from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis in May of 2006.
Since then, Twink has served as interim associate pastor at the ELCA Lutheran Church in Morrisonville, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Monona and most recently, at First Baptist Church in Madison. She is eligible for ordination in the UCC, but only when she receives a permanent call to a congregation. Craig, by the way, is now the senior pastor at Swiss UCC in New Glarus.
Twink has filled a number of short term roles with various UCC and other churches around the area in between her interim positions.
One of Twink’s biggest passions is for environmental sustainability. She has been particularly active in the Atwood neighborhood and founded an organization there called Sustainable Atwood.
Memorial's leadership was impressed by Twink’s ability to build community, her attentiveness to God’s presence in all people she meets, and her understanding of the need teens have for community and for people who care about them. She is willing to be just as open-ended as we are about whether we would consider her for a permanent position in the future. |
