Parish nurse annual report 2009
“The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps.”  Proverbs 16:9

The task of writing the annual report brings with it a time to pause and to affirm those events that have happened over the past year.

Looking back over the year of 2009, health and wellness topics and events available for members of Memorial UCC included affordable health care in Dane County, healthy food choices, safe cleaning supplies and lawn care, exercise, summer tips for avoiding water-borne illnesses and sun safety, stress relief, HIV/AIDS, mental health information, and the ever present 2009 topic of H1N1 flu.  Hand sanitizer was spotted everywhere and a handwashing bulletin notice continued to remind everyone how to stay healthy.

The spring brunch for members over 80 celebrated the wisdom and love of our older adult group.

An exercise program, “Walking to Bethlehem,” was started in April and encouraged all members and their families to keep track of their miles of all exercise.  After adding the spring and summer exercise mileage from many participants, we “traveled” over 6,300 miles to Bethlehem in time to “greet” Pastor Phil and the group who traveled there by airplane in October.  It was a fun way to keep moving so we continue to add the miles to return to Madison in the New Year.

A healing and renewal service was held during the month of November.

Home, hospital and extended care facility visits and monthly blood pressure screenings remain a primary focus of the parish nurse ministry.

However, the annual report is also a time to reflect and affirm how God has touched and guided my life, through the events and the ordinary and extraordinary encounters with members of Memorial.  Sharing in your ministry of health and wellness I experience awareness that God is present with us.   In gratitude I continue to extend my hand and heart to you in hopes that you too may experience a presence and love from God that completes your journey to wholeness.

Peace be with you,

Mary Ircink
