The Outreach Committee coordinates opportunities for members of the congregation to reach out in service to our community and beyond. For 2009, the Outreach Committee narrowed the focus of giving to five areas: Allied Drive Eviction Fund to help families with rent and utilities for families facing eviction or having their heat disconnected. Wellness Center, Nurse ministering to the physical, social, and emotional needs of residents. Disabilities NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Porchlight (Housing and Counseling for Chemically Dependent and Mentally Ill persons) Housing The Road Home Apartment Project – MUCC has pledged $10,000 over five years. $1,000 from the congregation and $1,000 from the Endowment Fund. Education Leopold School – Timber Wolf Trample is the primary fundraiser for the school. In 2010 this area will focus on all school children in need, including Leopold. Miscellaneous Church Women United, a city-wide group providing educational forums and personal advocacy with our legislature. Domestic Abuse Intervention Other Outreach Efforts Allied Partners Food Pantry – 1st Sunday contributions of food and money The Prison Ministry Project (Endowment Fund) Luke House – First Monday evening meal at Luke House, coordinated by Ruth Schoenwetter CROP walk in October, coordinated by Nancy Baumgardner “Lunch Box” donations to help low-income families with lunch costs at Leopold School Interfaith Hospitality Network shelter program. MUCC buddies with St. John’s in Oregon providing meals, children’s activities and overnight supervision four times a year, coordinated by Bobbie Beson-Crone Bethlehem Christmas Lutheran Church The Crossing, served Sunday night supper twice to UW students ARC – Citrus Fruit Sale Boys & Girls Club lunch at Allied Drive Joining Forces for Families – MUCC bought Christmas gifts for thirty children who live in the Allied Dr. area The Second Mile Fund Four times a year, members of the congregation use special envelopes to make an extra “second-mile” donation to help fund many of the projects listed above. The $2,176 donated in 2008 was available for the committee to disburse in 2009. The Outreach Committee during 2009 has worked with the Stewardship Committee to reshape this offering a bit. The envelopes are now labeled “Giving Locally – Going the extra mile.” Instead of being tied to specific dates, they are linked to the seasons of the year – winter, spring, summer and fall. Special MUCC Offerings Four times a year the congregation is called to give special offerings that are used by the United Church of Christ national body on our behalf.
