Outreach Committee Description

The Outreach Committee is responsible for providing focus to the mission work of Memorial UCC. The Committee identifies needs in the local, national and world community to facilitate Memorial UCC's mission of reaching out in ever-widening circles as witnesses to God's all-inclusive love for the lonely, the hungry, and those hurting in body or in spirit.

What we do:

  1. Identify mission opportunities to be supported by Memorial UCC and organize volunteers to sponsor and staff the programs, as needed. Current mission programs include:

    • Interfaith Hospitality Network
    • Luke House
    • Allied Partners's food pantry, parish nurse, Mitten tree, Christmas gifts, volunteers
    • Clothing drives
    • CROP Walk
    • Habitat for Humanity
    • Interdenominational activities such as DOERS
    • Partnership with the Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem
  2. Coordinate special offerings to support the UCC worldwide mission through Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM) programs, e.g.:

    • One Great Hour of Sharing

    • Neighbors in Need

    • Strengthen the Church

    • Christmas Fund

  3. Collect and distribute Second Mile Funds for the purpose of providing additional financial support selected community non-profit organizations and programs in the name of Memorial UCC.

  4. Raise awareness of the congregation regarding issues in which we can demonstrate God's will that people and nations should live in harmony.

How we do it:

The Outreach Committee uses the above activities as a guide. New ideas are welcomed for ways to best use the time, talents and resources of the congregation to further the mission of MUCC in the broader community. At least annually, the Committee reviews and refines its responsibilities and activities. The Council liaison keeps Church Council informed of the work of the Committee.

Volunteers are always welcome.
