Luke House (Community Meal Program)

Luke HouseA Christmas Note from Paul Ashe

During the Christmas season, Luke House makes a special effort to provide festive holiday meals. There will be a special Christmas meal on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If you would like to be involved with the meal - providing food, food prep prior to Christmas, serving the food or sharing the meal – please let us know by contacting Paul Ashe at 256-6325. As always, any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

During the holiday season, we also give out gifts of warm clothing. If interested, please visit our website for additional information.

Each year, people provide cookies for the Christmas Eve and Christmas meals at Luke House. Adding one, two or a few dozen treats to your holiday baking this season would be a great way to take part in this Christian ministry of hospitality to people in need. If you would like to share some Christmas spirit this way, please contact Paul Ashe at 256-6325.

Luke House serves the hungry in our community year-round. People often ask about the types of food donations that are most useful to Luke House. Useful items include foods such as pasta, spaghetti sauce, salt, pepper, sugar, coffee (regular and decaf), meals in a can (such as beef stew), vegetables and canned fruit, as well as bleach, laundry soap and other sundries.

It is through the generous support and prayers of people in the community that Luke House can fulfill its mission. Thank for everything you do for Luke House.

Sincerely,

Paul Ashe
The Community Meal Program-Luke House

The story of Luke House

About 40 faith-based communities in the Madison area take responsibility for one meal per month. Our meal is served the first Monday each month. The program has one full-time coordinator: Paul Ashe.

Luke House is located at 310 S. Ingersoll on the Isthmus -- just off Williamson St. about 2 blocks from the Willy St. Coop.

Memorial members and friends provide the food, prepare the meal, serve and share the meal with the guests, and clean the facility afterwards. We serve a sloppy joe dinner with corn, lettuce salad, bread, cookies, milk, and coffee.

Volunteers are coordinated by Ruth Schoenwetter. She brings the food from church about 3:30 and others arrive at Luke House around 4:45 p.m. to set tables, and prepare food for serving. Our work is done about 7 p.m.. Children and older youth are encouraged to help and enjoy the experience and the meal.

You are invited to help in this important outreach program, by preparing food, donating food or money to purchase food, or to serve the meal. Contact Ruth to Volunteer (608-273-8774).
