The Gift of Life — “Yes I Will”
By Mary Ircink
June 2010

“But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hand…”
Psalm 31: 14-15

When renewing your Wisconsin driver’s license you have the opportunity to add an “orange dot.”  The orange donor dot is a visible way to show your willingness to be an organ, tissue and eye donor.  However,  the dot doesn’t “legally authorize” the donation.  Now there is a new confidential online registry where anyone older than 15 ½ years with a driver’s license or state identification card can use this web site to give legal authorization to make organ donations when they die.

It’s important to register even if you already have a dot on your driver’s license.  The registry is easily accessible by donation professionals who can confirm a donor’s intentions and save valuable time in the donation process.

By saying “Yes I Will” through organ donation, the selfless act of one person can be a new beginning for as many as eight others in need.  Many more can receive the gift of sight through eye donation, or greatly improved health through tissue donation.

I hope that you will consider this “gift of life” and make the decision to go to the above web site to register your intent to be a donor.
