Health tip for July
Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes
Recent rainfall has spurred the emergence of an extra large crop of pesky mosquitoes.  You can reduce outdoor mosquito presence by eliminating standing water on your property.  Clean out clogged rain gutters.  Change the water in birdbaths, wading pools, and pet water dishes every three to four days.  Properly dispose of old tires and make sure that items on your property (boats, pool covers, pots, bird baths, etc) do not hold water for more than 3-4 days.

While outside, wearing a hat, long sleeve lighter colored clothing, light weight pants and not using perfumes or lotions on your skin helps to keep mosquitoes from biting.

It is also suggested to dab vanilla extract or garlic powder mixed with water to make a paste, on pulse points, behind knees, on shoes and ankles and a dab or two on your face and neck.  (Eating garlic everyday also helps!)
Another popular choice is using essential oils such as, lemongrass, lavender, eucalyptus, basil, peppermint, pennyroyal or tansy to name a few.  Mix the choice of oil with water and spritz on your body or directly on a cloth to rub on body.  Or add a few drops in soybean or olive oil and spray or rub on skin.  Make sure to avoid mouth and eyes. Remember to reapply at least every 90 minutes when outside.
