"Like" us

Lots of ideas from Cottage Meetings

When 52 folks from Memorial got together at seven different cottage meetings this fall, they came up with lots of ideas on ways to make life even better at our congregation. Staff members, committees and the Council are looking over the ideas, trying to build on those conversations at the cottage meetings. We have already implemented one idea – having The Green Sheet in the weekly bulletin to highlight areas in the life of the church where we could use volunteer help. We will try to implement more in the weeks ahead. Some, of course, were longer-range ideas that will be part of our ongoing planning here.

Below is a summary of just a few of the ideas, grouped in broad subject areas. Don’t worry – if you don’t see your idea here, it does not mean it is being overlooked. We will give careful consideration to all the ideas.

Communication
  • Find a better way to share information from committees and to let people volunteer in areas where help is needed (a bulletin insert is one such idea).
  • Post the names of the leadership of the congregation and of the committees Increase information and updates on our web site

Worship
  • Have two services year-round instead of just one in the summer.
  • Give out slips of paper for prayer requests for those who don't
  • want to speak up in church
  • Make a video of the sermon and put on the Internet for the homebound
  • Have a regular evening service
  • Use more contemporary and praise worship music

Social
  • Acknowledge all birthdays and anniversaries
  • Have a night dinner out for parents with child care provided
  • Organize a pre-school parent group
  • "Dinners for 8" groups meet periodically for dinner, either at homes or at
  • restaurant
  • Guys’ time (canoeing, golfing), parents night out, adults night, game night,

Children and Youth
  • Sunday school for 3-year olds
  • Two to three times per year have a middle school event (6th-8th grade)

General
  • Have work projects in the community more often than yearly
  • Have a church vegetable garden
  • Add landscaping around light poles in parking lot
