Adult eductation added to Sunday mornings |
|
Many of you have been involved in a variety of ways over the past few months in helping to shape our thinking about what Sunday mornings will be like around Memorial UCC this fall.
Through surveys, listening sessions, committee meetings and general discussion, many of you have been offering ideas on how to enhance our education programs for children and adults as well as on how to provide a good fellowship experience. Last month, our Council made some decisions based on those ideas. (Mary Ircink has a separate article on food for fellowship time.)
Starting on September 12, our early service will begin at 8:15 instead of 8:30. This will allow time between services for an adult education program as well as an enrichment activity for children (but this will not take the place of Sunday school). That will be from 9:10 to 9:50 a.m. The later service will still begin at 10, with Sunday school running roughly from 10:20 to 11:15.
We hope this will allow people from both services to attend adult education programs that interest them. A new Adult Education Subcommittee will develop the content for these programs. The children's program will both allow parents to participate in these programs while giving their children an additional experience rooted in their church community. The Children's Programming Subcommittee will plan these activities and look for volunteers to help lead them.
These programs will be evaluated as we go along to see if they are meeting the needs of our members and friends, so your feedback will be important.
