Regular year Sunday School

Here is a look at the program we have on Sunday mornings for our children from their youngest years through middle school. Schedule:

• Grade level Church School classes at 10:00 service (except for the 1st Sunday of each month when there is communion to which children are welcome and a one-room church school is offered for younger grades).
• Nursery care for young children is offered at both the 8:15 and 10 a.m. services (as well as at the 9 a.m. service during the summer).
• One-room church school offered in summer months.

• For grade level classes, children are divided into three levels: pre-k through kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, 3rd and 4th grades, and 5th through 7th. Three teams of teachers lead each of these classes. The levels are determined by numbers of children and number of teacher volunteers.
• The younger levels meet with Connie Von Der Heide for a time of music and then go to class. The 5th to 7th grade  class is self-contained. This group has a monthly session focusing on peace issues.

• The church school curriculum is based on the lectionary passages for the day, which means that the children and their parents in worship are thinking about the same scripture passage. The curriculum focuses not only on the passage but on its implication in the day-to-day lives of our children – as, hopefully, the sermon does as well. Ostensibly, there could be family discussion about the Bible story in the car on the way home.
• There are occasional additional learning opportunities. For example, in Lent there is a focus on the Heifer Project with activities.
• In summer there is Vacation Bible school with activities and songs around a theme.

Summer Sunday School

Summer is hear and time for our one room summer Sunday School.  This is a great time to spend time with our children.

There are many things you can do with the children:
Read a book  to them. (There are many books in our Sunday School library.) 
Take them on a walk.
Play games with them outside.
Do a craft with them.
Talk about the theme for the day.  (We have curriculum to read over for ideas.)

The ages this year are pre-kindergarten to fourth grade. Older children are invited to be helpers. The 5th-7th graders are great helpers with some of the smaller one.
