January is Jail Ministry Month

Memorial United Church of Christ is one of the Dane County Jail Ministry’s supporting congregations, and Memorial members and friends have been very generous over the years. Chaplains Christa Fischer and Julia have sent out a Jail Ministry Wish List for items to assist in their ministerial care. There will be a box in the narthex to collect the following items throughout the month of January and Chaplain Christa will be preaching at Memorial on Jan. 10th :

  • Men’s Underwear (white) — package must be new and unopened
  • Men’s T-shirts (white) — package must be new and unopened
  • Men’s Thermal Shirts (white) — package must be new and unopened
  • Tube Socks (white) — package must be new and unopened
  • Reading Glasses (1.0 – 4.0 strength)
  • Greeting Cards
  • Stamped Envelopes
  • Writing Paper
  • Composition notebooks (not spiral bound)
  • Pencils
  • Drawing/Sketch Paper
  • Colored Pencils
  • Playing Cards
  • Calendars
  • Sacred Spiritual Books (Bible, Quran, Torah – in English and Spanish)
  • Gently used books on the topics of prayer, grief, forgiveness, addiction, abuse, sexuality, race, identity, purpose, meaning, transformation, or meditation. Given the range of literacy skills in the jail, good quality children’s and young adult books are welcome, as are picture bibles.
  • Winter coats, hats and gloves (adult sizes) for men and women in the Huber Work-Release Program, as well as those being released in winter months
