As part of Memorial UCC’s centennial celebration in 2017, we are looking for a way to live out Memorial’s mission statement of reaching out in ever-widening circles. One way we can do that is to make a significant financial gift to the welfare of our local community.
Memorial will seek to raise $10,000 in the first five months of 2017. Based on the vote of the congregation, we will give that money to the Madison-area Urban Ministry’s proposal for provide micro-loans to individuals enrolled in MUM’s prisoner re-entry programs.
The micro-loans will assist with immediate needs (housing, work clothes, car repair), help people who are locked out of credit opportunities and then serve as a credit-reference for those who stay current on their repayments. By repaying the loan (which is capped at $250), participants help sustain the fund for the future. Linda Ketcham, the director of MUM, will be with us on Feb.19 to tell us more about the proposal.
We are receiving contributions to this fund. If you would like to contribute, please make your check out to Memorial UCC and put “Centennial Fund” in the memo line.
The fund-raising for this will end on our 100th anniversary, June 10, 2017.
