COME TO A BETHLEHEM MOVIE “NIGHT” SUNDAY, JANUARY 26 at 4:00 PM
As part of our Bethlehem Partnership, Memorial will be showing an informational and entertaining film co-directed by a professor at Dar al Kalima University of Arts and Culture entitled The Wanted 18. This 75minute film tells the story of an act of creative resistance, told from the perspective of cows. This animated documentary, set during the Second Intifada tells of one Palestinian village’s efforts to avoid Israeli curfews and steep taxes by smuggling a herd of cows to produce their own milk. Highlighting the absurdity of conditions under the occupation, The Wanted 18 manages to eek out humor in dire situations and celebrate the creative resilience of one Palestinian town. Following the film there will be a brief time for questions and conversations about the issues brought up by the film. Refreshments will be served. This is a fund-raiser in honor of the 15th anniversary of Bright Stars of Bethlehem, our partner organization that raises awareness and funds to benefit Dar al Kalima University College of Arts and Culture. Suggested donation: $10-$20 The film is appropriate for middle and high school youth. If families with small children would like to come, we will provide childcare; please let us know. Also, transportation for those who do not wish to drive can be arranged. Contact Bonnie (bonnievano@aol.com) or Nancy (nancybaumgardner@gmail.com) to make arrangements. |
