Wednesday, May 8, 6 pm, join us at church to learn more about how together we can empower women around the world out of poverty, trafficking and abuse through dignified job creation. Trades of Hope is a certified fair trade company that focuses on creating sustainable incomes for more than 13,000 artisans right here in the USA and in 16 countries around the world. Tracie Fountain, our representative, traveled to Haiti last May to meet the Trades of Hope artisan partners, and is excited to share uplifting stories of the hope that comes through fighting poverty through giving work. The artisans are not looking for charity but instead want to earn a dignified living. As mother’s day approaches there is no better way than to support a mother in another country than to be able to give her the income she needs to provide for her family and keep her children.
Through this event, you will be given the opportunity to purchase products made by the artisans from throughout the world. With our purchases, we will be working toward providing a Mama Kit to a women in Uganda. In Uganda when a women gives birth she is required to bring her own birth supplies to the hospital otherwise she is turned away. Because many women cannot afford to do this, there is an extremely high infant mortality rate. The event will also be helping work toward gifting a cleft palate surgery to a child in India. Finally, all the hostess rewards will be donated to Madison Urban Ministry, helping formerly incarcerated women find jobs. If you are unable to attend but would like to support the artisans please check out: www.mytradesofhope.com/parties/103759. Please RSVP so we know how many to expect by emailing Cheryl Porior-Mayhew at mayhew@uwalumni.com or calling her at 608-712-7546.
