6:30-8:30 p.m. – Many LGBT older adults face challenges and barriers while seeking and accessing healthcare.  We will begin the evening with a showing of the film, Gen Silent, a 2010 documentary about six LGBT seniors faced with the decision on whether or not to hide their sexuality in order to receive care in the long-term health care system. The following  presentation and discussion will address the issues brought up in the movie and offer suggestions on how to navigate a very complex health care system, while also focusing on ways healthcare personnel can work collectively to overcome these barriers to better serve LGBT populations. This presentation and discussion will be presented by students from the Edgewood College Post Baccalaureate Nursing program, under the guidance of Memorial member, Barbara Gallogly.
