Join us to learn about issues facing Indigenous people. As we celebrate and honor National American Indian Heritage Month and continue our congregation’s commitment to repudiating the Doctrine of Discovery, we asked members of Hocak (Ho Chunk) UCC of Black River Falls to update us on a newly formed nonprofit and ways we can help them.
Alliance for Justice, Inc. is a Wisconsin nonprofit organization whose goal is to further the commitment of UCC congregations, conferences and the general synod in repudiating the Doctrine of Discovery.
Several issues the group is currently working on will be discussed during our gathering. One of those issues is the congregations work on a letter of recommendation to a proposed name change to the Pilgrim Center to reflect the heritage of the traditional Native American meeting place.
Another issue is a survey that will be given to all Wisconsin Conference Churches that studied the issue of the Doctrine of Discovery, including Memorial UCC.
